People need more from a Christian Counselor than to be encouraged to pray, study scripture, and go to church. While we believe these are very important in our lives, a true daily walk with Jesus Christ leads one to true renewal. That change may come by learning better coping mechanisms and strategies. Dealing with and letting go of past abuse, trauma, and abandonment issues leads to rediscovering the true self in Jesus Christ that is vital to healing. We use practical approaches with our clients. We utilize practical wisdom from scripture, psychology, and mankind's experience. We try to avoid intellectualizing and remain practical and plainspoken. We encourage looking at common sense for solving many troubles. These practical Christ-centered approaches help the client to get to the root of his or her problem and find a solution as soon as possible.
If you like Dr. Phil on TV you will probably like Joseph A. Williams, MSW, LCSW. In his Christian counseling practice, Mr. Williams uses some practical approaches like Dr. Phil. Some clients have even called him Dr. Joseph out of admiration and respect for the similarities with Dr. Phil but the appropriate title for Mr. Williams is "Joseph" because he is not a doctor and prefers to be on a first name basis with clients.
