Christmas anxiety and how to combat it

These are notes Mr. Williams used in the interview.

There are plenty things we put on ourselves that can make us anxious.

  • Trying to meet everyone's expectations.

  • This is one of the busiest times of the year.

  • We may feel like we need to attend every party, buy lots of gifts, and send everyone we know a Christmas card.

  • Maybe we are so stressed about our economy that we don't feel like celebrating our Lord's birth.

  • What does God say about it?

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Phillipians 4:6-7

God promises us peace not anxiety.

Things you can do to reduce anxiety this time of year.

  • Pray without ceasing. Specifically pray before adding anything to your calendar - Lord how do you want me to spend my time?

  • Don't go into debt buying gifts.

  • Don't feel obligated to purchase something for everyone.

  • Talk with a close friend about how you feel. They may be feeling the same.

  • Exercise, maybe take a walk with that close friend and you will help yourself twice as much by multitasking activities that are beneficial.

  • As always keep your focus on Jesus - Enjoy the wonderful devotionals, music, and events that are provided this time of year.
